Mobile game companies need to calm down with their advertising

These days, mobile games are filled with an excessive amount of ads. They annoy you every two minutes and when you try to click on the exit button they will actually take you to their page on the app store. It will definitely make you lose the mood for mobile games.

It wouldn’t be that bad if the advertisements were decent, but they are horribly produced. Most of them are so out of context you don’t even know what the game is about. A lot of these ads try to lure you in with old stereotypes and repetitive text but are just so tame and boring. Here are some examples of the most annoying ads: “Mom vs Dad” (one will be better than the other); “Are you this smart?”; “You are God if you beat this level.” These ads are so uncreative. What’s worse is that there are so many clones of one game. Essentially, these mobile game companies see that one type of specific game is becoming really successful, so they make pretty much exactly the same thing but change one or two characteristics so they don’t get stricken for copyright violation. The result is all these mobile game ads with the exact same format. This gets really tedious and annoying and will make you never want to install these games in your life.

We can’t also forget that a lot of these game ads have a lot of false advertising. You will see an advertisement showing a cool game with awesome gameplay. You install it and find out that it’s just some candy crush knockoff or a type of multiplayer strategy game. I don’t understand why anyone would even do this because the app is just going to be uninstalled immediately. If these developers think that I’m going to have some sympathy for them, they are mistaken. “Tycoon” ads sort of follow the same route by making you believe that there are certain gameplay aspects in the ad you’re watching, but in reality, the game you play is a buy-to-win type of game.

Now since most apps on the app store need revenue, they’re open to ads. That means that any app that you install with ads can show the same type of ads you see with every other app. The best way for mobile game companies to gain people’s respect again is to actually make the game enjoyable to play. If these games get to be among the top rated ones on the App Store, then other people will probably recommend the game to others. These mobile game companies also have to be original. I don’t want to play some knockoff version of another game. It’s like buying Walmart branded cookies. On the outside, they look the same, but you can tell the difference once you start eating it. I’m not saying that we should get rid of the advertisements all together, but I at least want them reduced and actually creative.
